Walmley Golf Club

Walmley Men's Club Championships 2017

Over the weekend, the main event of our golfing calendar took place. Not only was the Club Champion title up for grabs (Merifield Cleek Trophy) also the Nett Championship and Usher Cup.

Defending Club Champion Jamie Slater going for his 4th title in a row managed to produce an excellent 72 1st round joined by the old Hand and 5 times winner James Hemphill. Going into the last 9 holes of the 2nd round, Jamie, James and Rob Holland were all tied for the lead. Rob birdied the 17th meaning the last hole would be played with Jamie having a one shot lead.

The 18th was played fittingly, showcasing the quality of the golf; Rob hitting a fine shot onto the green but Jamie got even closer which ultimately sealed the victory. Jamie’s low scoring also ensured he was the only player to better his handicap for the 2 rounds and took the Usher cup title as well.

Well done Jamie and thank you to all the Greens team for producing a 1st class golf course.
